However, some managers often have some misunderstandings in the use of lubricants, causing unnecessary losses. The common misunderstandings in the use of air compressor oil mainly include the following:
1. The viscosity of the air compressor oil, the better
Many managers believe that: the higher the viscosity of the air compressor lubricant, the better, and the higher the lubricant grade (the kinematic viscosity in cents at 100°C), the better. In fact, this understanding is one-sided. The greater the viscosity, the thicker the oil film between the friction surfaces of the moving parts. Although the oil film is thick, it is helpful to prevent the wear of the friction surface, but the friction resistance is also large and the power loss increases. Foreign data show that the viscosity of lubricating oil is reduced by 1 centist, which saves about 1.5% of fuel. Therefore, the viscosity of the air compressor lubricating oil is not as large as possible, but should be as low as possible under the conditions of ensuring lubrication. The low viscosity of lubricating oil is one of the current fuel saving measures.
2. The more air compressor oil is added, the better
The main function of lubricating oil is to lubricate the machine, reduce friction and reduce wear. When the amount of oil is insufficient, it will accelerate the deterioration of the lubricating oil, and even cause the adhesion and abnormal wear of parts due to lack of oil. However, too much lubricating oil is also undesirable. There are two reasons: one is that too much lubricating oil will enter the combustion chamber from the gap between the cylinder and the piston to produce carbon deposits; the second is to increase the stirring resistance of the crankshaft connecting rod and make fuel Increase in consumption. Experiments have shown that fuel consumption will increase by 1.2% when the fuel volume exceeds 1% of the standard. 3. It doesn’t matter if different brands of air compressor oil are mixed
From the perspective of cost saving, some managers of units are reluctant to replace the remaining lubricating oil in the air compressor during seasonal maintenance, and continue to use it after supplementing a certain amount of new oil. Sometimes they simply use two different brands of lubricating oil. Mixed use. This approach seems to be no problem for the time being, but in the long run, it accelerates the wear, aging and deterioration of the parts, and the cost increases. Lubricants of different brands cannot be mixed. Because different brands of lubricants have different physical and chemical properties, their chemical composition, viscosity, acid value and various additives and other main components and indicators directly affect the operation of the machine parts. If used in combination, its performance will change, the operating temperature of the machine will increase, a lot of bubbles will be produced, and even the quality will be deteriorated. The working conditions of the precision parts, running parts and seals of the automobile are also changed, the performance is reduced, the wear of the parts is accelerated, the seals are deteriorated and aging, the seal is not good, and the lubricant is leaked.
4. When the air compressor oil is used up and when to replace it
Some people think that as long as the lubricating oil is not used up, there is no need to replace it. If the quantity is small, just add some new oil at will. This approach is unscientific, because the quality of the lubricating oil is a key factor affecting the reliability and service life of the air compressor, and timely replacement of the lubricating oil is a guarantee for reliable lubrication of the air compressor. As time goes by, the performance of lubricating oil will become worse and worse, and it will seriously affect the air compressor. Lead to the generation of functional failure. In order to ensure the long-term normal operation of the air compressor and reduce wear, the lubricant must be replaced in time according to regulations.
5. The air compressor oil turns black and replace it immediately
Many managers saw that the color of the lubricating oil turned black, and they believed that the oil had deteriorated seriously, and replaced it, causing waste. For the lubricants that were not added with detergent and dispersant in the early days, the darkening of the color during use is indeed a manifestation of the serious deterioration of the oil, but the lubricants used now generally have a detergent and dispersant to adhere to the piston. The rubber film and black carbon deposits are washed down and dispersed in the oil to reduce the formation of high-temperature deposits in the air compressor. Therefore, the color of the lubricating oil is likely to turn black after a period of time, but the oil at this time has not deteriorated. Whether the lubricating oil is seriously deteriorated and needs to be replaced, it should be determined mainly based on whether the physical and chemical indicators of the lubricating oil meet the scrap standard.
